Town Centre Managers attempting to save Melton's only evening bus service.
Think Melton Shop Melton The Think Melton Shop Melton campaign aims to market & promote the Town Centre of Melton Mowbray by addressing the following key areas which were highlighted in the Melton Capacity Building Workshop: Themes include: Improve Brand & Image; Develop & Promote Leisure & Retail Mix; Speciality Markets; Pride in Melton; Develop Evening Economy for Families; Develop Cultural Events
The 'Melton Bag' was launched in 2009 which promoted this 'Think Melton Shop Melton' campaign. You can purchase a bag from The Melton Cheeseboard, The Town Estate, Melton Toys or direct from the TCM Office upstairs at 7 King Street.
Town Centre Guide and Town Centre Shopping Guide A new Melton Visitor Guide has been produced in conjunction with Melton Promotions, promoting places to visit, where to eat and drink and places to stay. Copies can be obtained from many of the town centre shops, from the external leaflet holders in the Market Place and in St Marys Car Park or direct from the TCM Office. 40,000 Town Centre Shopping Guides were produced and launched at the Grow It Cook Eat it festival in April 2008. THis guide is now being updated and will be launched for the Spring 2010.
New Campaign to Boost the Evening Economy Melton took part in a new national campaign, to encourage more visitors to the town in the evening. Dine 09 will took place from 12th to 18th October, just after the East Midlands Food & Drink Festival. Restaurants and Eateries were asked to provide a lunch for £5.00 and 2 course diner for £10.00, for the one week. The Melton Town Centre Partnership and Melton Promotions supported the event, and subsidised the £99.00 entrance fee by meeting 50% of the costs. The MTCP are now looking at launching its own campaign in 2010 ..... watch this space
Melton Town Centre Enhancement Scheme Melton Town Centre Partnership, supported by Melton Borough Council was successful in securing £30,000 funding from the LCC’s Place Shaping Fund in 2009/10. The Melton Town Centre Enhancement Scheme, has delivered the following projects over the last 12 months: · Lighting Enhancement Scheme The scheme will light up key historical aspects of the town centre, revealing and enhancing the architectural heritage, whilst also improving lighting and safety within the town centre, and boosting the evening economy Key lighting features will be: King Street archway Butter Cross and Corn Cross (Market Place) “Argos Alleyway”
· Signage Improvement Scheme Phase 2 of improved signposting and finger posting, to provide clear and informative signage throughout the town centre for residents, employees & tourists. The new finger posts were put up in February 2010 · Business Development Scheme As part of the MTCP’s “Melton Means Business” Campaign, the scheme supported businesses with grants to improve signage, internal and external appearance of business premises.
Business Improvement Grants: FREE Websites:
20 businesses took advantage of the free website scheme, choosing 1 page or 5 page websites for a year.
FREE Business Surgeries Free monthly Business surgeries and Networking events, with key representatives from Welland Enterprise Agency, Business Link etc. Dates to follow. Melton Town Centre Partnership, supported by Melton Borough Council was successful in securing £15,000 funding from the Welland Challenge Fund in 2009/10. The Business Improvement Grant Scheme offered the below projects under the scheme, until March 2010.
Business Improvement Grants of up to £500 Business Improvement Grants of up to £500 per business. This included improvements to both the interior and exterior of premises, signage etc and was available to all town centre businesses.
